JAMES MACIVER COSTUMES

Assistant Workroom Supervisor

I started my role as Assistant Workroom Supervisor in December 2024 after working as a Theatrical Costume Cutter for the previous 6 months. Working closely with the designer to source specific fabrics and trims, I have developed a strong understanding of fabrics and suppliers.

A large part of the success of my role depends on forward planning. I work hard to ensure that every aspect of the costume design, from fabric to finishings, has been considered ahead of time to allow for ordering of garment-specific haberdashery and sampling of new techniques. This creates a smooth process from start to finish. I am responsible for ensuring haberdashery stock levels are maintained at an optimal level, to avoid unexpected shortages and prevent delays in projects, as well as cleaning shared machinery in the studio.

Keeping project documentation up-to-date and taking up-close photos of finished garments is an important part of the job, particularly for shows that are long-running and require remakes for cast changes. This helps ensure consistency within the our costumes.

DEC 2024 - Present

Theatrical Costume Cutter

As Theatrical Costume Cutter, I worked in a fast-paced department. In this role I needed to work out layering for garments before cutting them with precision and efficiency. My experience working with a wide variety of fabrics, has given me a strong understanding of the specific needs of costumes for actors, dancers, and singers.

James Maciver Costumes supplies costumes for large-scale musicals, touring theatre productions, cruise ship entertainment, holiday parks, and television.
